COVID-19 Cases In Jakarta And Central Java Skyrocket, Jokowi: Needs Special Attention

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded the provinces of Jakarta and East Java to pay more attention to handling COVID-19. Because, recently the cases of COVID-19 in the two provinces have increased sharply.

"I want to remind you that there are two provinces that, in my opinion, need special attention because the increase in this week, in two or three days the increase has been drastic, namely Central Java and DKI Jakarta," Jokowi said when opening a limited meeting with the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and Recovery. National Economy, broadcasted online on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube, Monday, November 30.

Then, Jokowi asked his staff to find out the cause. In addition, the former governor of DKI Jakarta also advised his staff to be careful in responding to these additional cases.

"You can really see why the increase is so drastic and careful," he said.

As it is known, cases of COVID-19 recently have indeed increased quite sharply. Even on Sunday, November 29, there was a new record with 6,267 positive people for COVID-19 in a day.

The largest contributor to cases came from Central Java with 2,036 cases and displaced DKI Jakarta, which had an additional 1,431 cases.

Next, East Java Province recorded an additional 412 cases, West Sumatra 273 cases, and West Java recorded 228 cases.

Regarding the addition of cases in Central Java, the Head of the Central Java Provincial Health Office, Yulianto Prabowo, said this might happen because the number of tests in his area was quite high.

He is sure, other regions have actually recorded the same figure, but so far it has not been detected because the testing is not as massive as Central Java.

"I think this is because our tests are high. So I think it is actually high everywhere. It's just that the tests are low. In Central Java, the tests are high," said Yulianto when contacted by VOI, Sunday, November 29.
