JAKARTA - The Civil Society Network Coalition urges the government to investigate and prevent potential divisions with issues of ethnicity, religion, race and intergroup (SARA) from terror by the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) group.

In this case, MIT massacred four residents in Sigi, Central Sulawesi. Apart from that, this terrorist group also burned several houses, including a house for Christian worship services.

"The coalition urges the Central and Regional Governments to take quick action so that this incident is not used by a group of people to play the issue of SARA as a means of dividing society," said one of the members of the coalition, Chair of the YLBHI Advocacy Division, Muhammad Isnur in his statement, Monday, 30 November.

Isnur said, resolving and enforcing the law against the perpetrators as soon as possible will minimize the potential for further provocation and violence in the Central Sulawesi region, even in other regions.

He continued, the government also needed to guarantee to control the potential for propaganda about violence from this case. Especially, in individual or group statements that aim to spread hatred and confusion.

"Confusion of news regarding the situation must be resolved by the government by providing objective information and data related to the situation," explained Isnur.

In addition to urging the government to thoroughly investigate this terror case, Isnur also asked the government to rebuild a community worship place that was burned by MIT.

"We urge the government to ensure that residents are safe and can return to their homes, as well as facilitate rebuilding of religious service posts for residents," he said.
