TARAKAN - The Tarakan Police are handling the case of a vocational high school teacher (SMK) in Tarakan City, North Kalimantan who is suspected of sexually harassing three of his underage students. "The perpetrator with the initials UM is 40 years old, he is a religious teacher at the school as an honorary teacher," said Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tarakan Police, Iptu Muhammad Aldi in Tarakan, Antara, Monday, September 26. The incident took place around July and August 2022 and was reported by the victim's parents on September 20, 2022. The report has been handled by the Women and Children Service Unit (PPA) of the Tarakan Police Satreskrim. "We received reports of sexual harassment incidents. The incidents occurred around July and August in 2022 at one of the Vocational Schools in Tarakan City," said Aldi. Based on the reports and examination of witnesses, the perpetrator carried out the action at around 17.00 WITA at school, with the mode of pulling the victim down the stairs at the school and then launching the action. "The method is to force it, so when the time comes home the person concerned is indeed targeting the victim, the perpetrators withdraw by force then he takes it down the stairs," he said. Currently, there are a total of three victims, one person reporting to the Tarakan Police, then two of the previous victims. The average victim is only 16 and 17 years old or underage. Until now, the perpetrators do not admit related to the incident. But what is certain is that the victim was traumatized and did not even go to school during the teacher's lesson hours. For his actions, the perpetrators are threatened with Article 381 paragraph 3 junto Article 76 D sub-Article 82 paragraph 2 junto Article 76 D of Law No. 17 of 2016 concerning the stipulation of Government Regulation to replace Law No. 1 of 2016 concerning the second amendment to Law No. 23 of 2002 concerning child protection and become law and or Article 6 letter c and Article 15 paragraph 1 letter b of Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning criminal acts of sexual violence, with a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.
