BINTAN - The Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of Bintan Regency, Riau Islands, conveyed the dismissal of Apri Sujadi as regent to the minister of Home Affairs through the governor of the Riau Islands, Ansar Ahmad. The chairman of the Bintan Regency DPRD, Agus Wibowo, said that the plenary meeting for Sujadi's dismissal as the regent of Bintan was held on August 10, 2022. "Furthermore, we are waiting for the Minister of Home Affairs' decision to appoint the Acting Regent of Bintan, Roby Kurniawan, as the definitive regent," he said in Bintan, as reported by Antara, Sunday, September 25. The Regional Secretary of the Riau Islands, Adi Prihantara, added that his party had submitted a letter requesting the appointment of Roby Kurniawan as the definitive regent of Bintan online about three months ago. "After the definitive regent, the selection of the Deputy Regent of Bintan was proposed by the supporting party," he said. A member of the Bintan Regency DPRD, Zulkifli, said that the election of the deputy regent could only be carried out after Kurniawan served as the definitive regent of Bintan. The process of selecting the deputy regent of Bintan was not easy because only two names were proposed by the five supporting parties, namely the Democratic Party, Golkar Party, Prosperous Justice Party, the National Mandate Party, and the Hanura Party. The five supporting parties had to sit down together to agree on the names of the two deputy regent candidates. "To equalize this desire that is a bit difficult," he said. The member of the Democratic faction of the Bintan DPRD said that the number of seats in the legislature obtained by the Democrats during the 2019 election was eight seats, while the Golkar Party had six seats, PKS had three seats, PAN and the Hanura Party had one seat each. According to him, the Democratic Party has appointed Ahdi Muqsith as a candidate for deputy regent of Bintan. "I don't know who the other supporting parties propose," he said. Zulkifli said the election stage for the Deputy Regent of Bintan was limited in time. Based on the Pilkada Law, the election for deputy regional heads can only be carried out no later than 18 years before the end of the term of office of the regional head. "We received information at the end of October 2022 on the deadline for the election of the Deputy Regent of Bintan. It is difficult to realize because it is now the end of September 2022," he said.
