JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met International Red Cross (ICRC) President Peter Maurer to discuss the situation and cooperation in humanitarian aid for Myanmar and Afghanistan.

The meeting was also held as a farewell meeting considering Maurer will soon end his tenure, according to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in his statement on Saturday, September 24.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ICRC and Indonesia have collaborated a lot, including in countries that are experiencing a humanitarian crisis.

During the meeting, the Indonesian Foreign Minister and the ICRC President exchanged views on humanitarian conditions in several countries, including those experienced by Myanmar, Rohingya and Afghanistan residents.

"The condition of the Rohingya community in the refugee camps needs to continue to get attention in the midst of a world that is facing many crises. Myanmar's situation after the coup has become more difficult to repatriate Rohingya to Myanmar voluntarily, safely and with dignity," Retno said, as quoted by Antara.

Retno and the President of ICRC agreed that humanitarian aid to Myanmar must reach all parties in need without discrimination.

Regarding Afghanistan, Retno conveyed the priority of Indonesia's current assistance, especially for access to education for women in Afghanistan.

Retno also mentioned the cooperation between Indonesia and Qatar for Afghanistan, including dialogue between scholars.

The meeting between Retno and Peter Maurer was held on the sidelines of the series of the 77th UN General Assembly in New York, United States on Friday (23/9).
