Mahfud MD: The Case of Lukas Enembe Continues, It's a Matter of Law Enforcement

SURABAYA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, emphasized that the legal process for the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, was still being processed despite demonstrations by supporters of the Democrat cadres. Lukas Enembe has been named a corruption suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"This is a matter of law enforcement, the case continues", said Mahfud, after a dialogue on the Criminal Code Bill in Surabaya, Wednesday, September 21.

Mahfud reminded that the legal process against Enembe in the future should not be politicized. All must run professionally according to the rules and applicable laws.

"The law must be enforced and should not be politicized", he said.

"Law is law. That's what we are doing in Papua", said Mahfud MD.

The KPK said that the alleged corruption involving the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, was not just one case. There are a number of suspected related cases and are currently being investigated.

"There are several cases that are being handled regarding LE, not just one, yes. We are currently handling several cases", said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Karyoto.

It did not specify what cases were being investigated by the KPK. However, Karyoto said that information about the presumptuous practice of Lukas came from community reports.

"It will be related to several community reports from the dumas (community complaints), which are related to Papua and are also linked to the existing PPATK", he said.

Karyoto ensured that the investigation into the alleged corruption carried out by Lukas would be thoroughly investigated. Investigations and investigations are carried out to the maximum.

"So, indeed, the fingerprinting process is ongoing, and there are several cases that we are currently carrying out", he said.
