Thank The Attorney General Of Ukraine, United States For Supporting People Who Become Victims Of Invasion Of Russia In Search For Justice

JAKARTA - US Attorney General totaled B. Garland, ensuring his country's support for the Ukrainian people who were victims of the Russian invasion to seek justice.

He said that when he received Ukrainian Attorney General Andriy Kostin in Washington on Tuesday to discuss efforts to hold accountable for war crimes and other atrocities after the invasion.

"The United States supports the Ukrainian people in their tireless pursuit, to enforce the rule of law and seek justice for victims before Russia's continued aggression," US Attorney General Garland said, citing the US Department of Justice website, Wednesday, September 21.

"Today, the Justice Department and the Attorney General's Office announced our decision to work closely to identify, arrest and prosecute those involved in war crimes and other atrocities in Ukraine. We will without stopping in these efforts to hold the perpetrators accountable," he continued.

On the occasion, the two officials signed a deal (MoU), which would promote efficiency in investigations and prosecutions, consistently with national laws.

This includes removing barriers to timely exchange of information and evidence as well as being effective in investigations and prosecutions by the two countries, increasing the ease of technical cooperation that can be provided.

The MoU was built based on previous efforts by the department, following the Attorney General's trip to Ukraine on June 21, 2022. During the trip, Attorney General Garland announced the launch of a team of war crimes accountability to concentrate and strengthen ongoing work, holding those responsible for war crimes and other atrocities in Ukraine after the Russian invasion. "The MoU we signed today allowed us to increase our joint efforts, in ensuring accountability for international crimes," Andriy Kostin.

"Through building a framework for formal cooperation, we will strengthen effective investigations and prosecutions against crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine and provide a measure of justice for the victims," he said.

It is known, both Russia and Ukraine both say both sides have committed war crimes, since the February invasion.

Recently, Ukrainian authorities claimed the discovery of hundreds of bodies in mass graves in Izium left by Russian forces. Previously, the discovery of mass graves in the midst of the Russian-Ukraine war also took place in Bucha some time ago.
