JAKARTA - Former TNI Commander General (ret) Gatot Nurmantyo said he could not possibly refuse the Mahaputera Star award. Gatot accepted it even though he could not attend the embedding at the State Palace.

"This award is given by the state. The country has the people, the government, I cannot refuse it. If I refuse, it means I do not recognize the people, do not recognize the government," he said, during an online press conference for the Coalition to Save Indonesia (US). , Thursday, November 26th.

For the award given to him as a former TNI Commander, Gatot accepted and expressed his gratitude, as well as apologized for not being able to attend the ceremony.

"So in the introduction to my letter, thank you for the award from the Republic of Indonesia. I thank you with gratitude. Alhamdulillah, I thank you. However, I apologize for not being able to attend the embedding," he said.

According to him, the Bintang Mahaputera award was given to him as a representative of all TNI soldiers, both active and retired while Gatot was in the army from 1982 to 2018.

"Those who have put their energy, thoughts, sweat, blood, and even life into protecting the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," he said.

Regarding the reasons for his absence, Gatot did not convey it explicitly. But what is clear is that all the reasons stated in several points have been conveyed in his personal letter to the President.

"The first and second reasons, I think it is clear. The third, very personal reason, I convey to the President that I have received a state order that was conveyed by the President until my retirement cannot finish. I hope and pray that my successor will immediately resolve it. , "said Gatot.
