KALTENG - A total of 12 urban villages in Palangka Raya City were affected by flooding due to the overflow of a large river in Gunung Mas Regency which was upstream and its flow across the local area.

"Until yesterday, floods were still hitting a number of areas, even increasing to 12 affected villages," said Head of the Palangka Raya City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Emi Abriyani in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan (Central Kalimantan), quoted from Antara, Monday 19 September.

Of the 12 sub-districts, BPBD recorded 16,767 people or 4,683 families (KK) affected by the disaster that hit during the rainy season.

In addition, currently 4,075 houses have been recorded due to flooding due to the overflow of the river.

The 12 sub-districts in Palangka Raya City that were affected by the flood were Pahandut, Langkai, Pahandut Seberang, Tanjung Pinang, Bukit Tunggal, Palangka, Petuk Katimpun, Bereng Bengkel, Kameloh Baru, Lake Tundai, Kalampangan, and Marang Village.

"In addition to submerging environmental roads, flooding has also begun to inundate some residents' houses. Meanwhile, the flood height starts from 5 centimeters to 50 centimeters. As a result, community activities are disrupted," he said.

His party asked the community, especially in low areas and in riverbank areas, to increase their awareness of the increase in water levels.

Moreover, he continued, based on information from the BMKG, rain will still flush a number of Central Kalimantan areas, including Gunung Mas Regency and Palangka Raya City. Gunung Mas Regency is an area that is the upstream of the river whose flow crosses the Palangka Raya City area.

The rain that continues to occur in the district causes the river to no longer be able to accommodate the water discharge. As a result, there was an overflow that caused flooding in the watershed, including in Palangka Raya City.

For this reason, in order to provide information on potential flood disasters, the BPBD team periodically monitors river water levels at predetermined monitoring points.

The government plans operations to handle disaster emergency alerts and submit requests for emergency alert assistance needs.

In addition, implementing and coordinating the mobilization of resources for handling disaster emergency alerts quickly, precisely, effectively and efficiently.

The local BPBD also prepared locations that were used as command posts and evacuation centers for local residents who were victims of the flood sent. The location of the command post and evacuation is ready. If at any time necessary, it can be built and used immediately.
