First Case Appears In Jakarta, House Of Representatives Commission IX Asks Government To Prepare Monkeypox Vaccine

JAKARTA - A confirmed case of monkeypox or monkeyfox is in Indonesia.

This case first appeared in DKI Jakarta, from a 27-year-old male patient who underwent a PCR test.

As an effort to anticipate, the government was asked to prepare a monkeypox vaccine.

Member of the House of Representatives Commission IX, Rahmad Handoyo, admitted that his party had warned him about monkeypox for a long time.

It is evident now that the outbreak, which has been declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global health emergency, has entered Indonesia.

Even so, said Rahmad, the first monkeypox outbreak in Indonesia was not surprising considering that this epidemic had penetrated almost 100 countries.

Therefore, vaccination is needed to prevent the spread of monkeypox.

"I think in the future high-risk areas and high-positive areas will need to be vaccinated so that monkeypox doesn't get wider. This means that we have to prepare horses by vaccinating them, because vaccines of 85 percent and above can provide protection from this disease. ," he said in an official statement, Sunday, August 21.

Rahmad suggested that health workers be given training on how to handle and control monkeypox.

"Our health workers must understand very well what monkeypox is so that in time he can diagnose correctly. Therefore, it may be necessary to consider how the health workers are given special training about monkeypox," he said.

Furthermore, the PDI-P politician said, although the monkeypox epidemic seems difficult to avoid, the public does not need to be afraid and panicked.

Even so, the public is asked to be more careful and vigilant.

"The confirmation of monkeypox should not cause panic. But yes, let's try our best to carry out various real efforts so that this epidemic does not spread," he said.

Rahmad also asked that if any member of the community experiences signs that point to monkeypox, the person concerned must immediately make a visit to a health facility.

"The public must be educated massively to understand what and how monkeypox is. What are the signs, how does it spread and what steps should be taken if you experience symptoms. Education like this must be done by the government so that people can anticipate the spread of monkeypox," he said.
