JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) supports the acceleration of bus electrification in the TransJakarta fleet by replacing conventional engines with electric engines.
"On behalf of the Governor and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, I am very happy, I appreciate the TransJakarta MoU with the private sector, because it is something good and extraordinary. Now everything has turned to electricity," said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria as reported by ANTARA, Friday, 18 August.
According to the Deputy Governor of DKI, several developed countries, such as in Switzerland and Norway, already have cities that are required to use electric vehicles.
"Jakarta as a global city must also be able to and indeed must be able to," he said.
The acceleration of the electrification of the bus fleet in TransJakarta itself is in the process of signing a memorandum of understanding or Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PT TransJakarta and the British company Equipmake Holdings Plc and PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas, Thursday (18/8).
Riza explained that now the City of Jakarta has started presenting 30 electric buses, which of course must be increased in quantity and quality, therefore TransJakarta signed an MoU with an Equipmake company as the owner of the technology as well as retrofit components and Vector as the license holder who will produce the "retrofit" engine.
"Thirty of the 3,500 TransJakarta buses currently use electricity. It is targeted that all public buses in Jakarta can operate using electricity by 2030.
Riza assessed that this three-party cooperation is expected to meet the electrification target of 10,000 TransJakarta buses by 2030 and increase domestic manufacturing capabilities.
Equipmake and Vector are currently preparing to manufacture electric bus engines in a "retrofit" manner to meet TransJakarta needs.
"We are optimistic because it has been successfully carried out in several countries. God willing, we will start in Jakarta. Hopefully the presence of conversions and profits like this will make it easier and faster," he said.
