Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai Strongly Discourages Vigilante Action in the South Jakarta Padel Case

JAKARTA - Human Rights Minister (HAM) Natalius Pigai emphasized that the practice of self-judging or vigilantism cannot be justified in Indonesia. As a state of law, every alleged crime - including alleged theft - must be processed through the applicable legal mechanisms, not through unilateral actions that violate human rights.

"I as the Minister of Human Rights emphasize that there should be no vigilantism. Vigilantism means playing judge and jury. We are not a vigilante state," said Natalius Pigai in Jakarta, Monday (29/6/2026).

Pigai's strong statement was made in response to the alleged case of abuse and kidnapping in the South Jakarta padel that befell a worker. He considered the kidnapping action to be a cruel act that degraded human dignity and dignity.

Minister of Human Rights Instructs the DKI Jakarta Regional Office to Go to the Field

Responding to this case, which is currently in the public spotlight, the Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai moved quickly. He immediately ordered the Regional Office (Kanwil) of the DKI Jakarta Human Rights Ministry to immediately go to the field to carry out intensive monitoring.

Pigai asked the team in the field to provide an initial report on the same day or at the latest within one to two days.

"I order the DKI Jakarta Regional Office today, this afternoon, to come down. And tonight I have to get a report," he said.

According to Pigai, this monitoring is crucial to ensure protection for victims as well as collecting initial facts of the incident. The results of this investigation will later become the basis for the Ministry of Human Rights in monitoring the fulfillment of victims' rights.

Chronology of the Padel Employee Kidnapping Case in Jaksel

Previously, officers from the South Jakarta Metro Police had moved to secure the situation. The police managed to arrest four perpetrators of persecution and kidnapping of new employees of the padel field in the Kebayoran Lama area, South Jakarta. The four perpetrators are known as ASB, RRK, AH, and DW.

This case came to light after going viral on social media through the upload of the @info.bintaro.jaksel Instagram account. The video recording shows a man accompanied by several people in front of the padel sports facility in Kebayoran Lama.

Based on the information collected, this tragic incident began when the victim's family was approached by an employee of the sports venue. The victim, whose initials are AL and has only been working for two months, was accused of stealing a padel racket.

Extortion and Appropriation of Victim's Family Assets

Not stopping there, the padel employee urged the parents of the AL to hand over a fantastic amount of money, namely Rp. 50 million in cash.

Although the family had asked to pay in installments due to economic constraints, the person refused and demanded full payment. Because there was no money, the perpetrator then took arbitrary action by confiscating:

Two units of motorbikes belonging to the victim's brother (AL). One unit of Xiaomi brand mobile phone (HP).

Along with the extortion, the victim AL was forcibly taken to the padel field manager's office. It was there that the victim was allegedly kidnapped and subjected to severe persecution by the perpetrators before the police intervened.
