DPR Hopes New Paper Money Innovations In 2022 Emissions Repress Cases Of Counterfeiting

JAKARTA - Commission XI of the House of Representatives appreciates the steps taken by the Government and Bank Indonesia to launch seven new Rupiah banknotes for 2022 Emissions. The government and BI are asked to massively socialize the issuance of this new currency.

"Issuing Rupiah denominations with new designs and innovations to coincide with the commemoration of Indonesian Independence Day, I think is a good step to further create a sense of nationalism and love for the country," said Member of Commission XI DPR, Charles Meikyansah, Thursday, August 18.

The new notes issued consisted of denominations of Rp100,000, Rp50,000, Rp20,000, Rp10,000, Rp5,000, Rp2,000, and Rp1,000. The 2022 Emission Year (TE) notes have a sharper color design, a security element that is said to be more reliable, and the durability of the money material is better.

Commission XI hopes that the technology used for the new currency will make it easier to identify the authenticity of the Rupiah. In addition, said Charles, to be more comfortable and safe to use and more difficult to fake.

"We hope that the innovations in this new issue of money can reduce cases of counterfeiting money," he said.

Inside each Rupiah banknote, it is known that there are various stories and narratives about the nationality of the Indonesian nation. The 2022 Issue Year Rupiah Banknote retains the main image of the national hero on the front. There are 8 national heroes displayed in the 2022 new money issue, including the Indonesian Proclaimers, Ir Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta.

“The presence of the new currency which is still full of the nuances of 'Indonesian' must be interpreted as a symbol of unifying the nation. Technological advances, including in the fields of finance and banking, should not destroy our love for the Rupiah," said Charles.

The legislator from the East Java IV electoral district also encouraged Bank Indonesia and the Government to intensify socialization with the new Rupiah banknotes. According to Charles, socialization must be carried out at the village level and throughout the country.

"So that apart from knowing that there is a new issue of money, the public can also understand that the previous issue of Rupiah is still valid as a legal tender in all parts of Indonesia," he said.

New Money 2022 can now be obtained at Bank Indonesia or through a new online money exchange service with the Rupiah Currency Exchange and Withdrawal (PINTAR) application. If through the PINTAR application, the public must first place an order with a number of terms and conditions that apply.

"Bank Indonesia and the Government need to make it easier for the public to be able to exchange Rupiah currency by increasing the number of points where money can be exchanged," concluded Charles.
