Jokowi: Laws Must Be Enforced Fairly, Don't Look Down!

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo reminded the National Police, the Attorney General's Office, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to uphold law enforcement in Indonesia.

The President asked the Police, the Attorney General's Office, and the KPK not to be selective in handling legal cases. "The law must be enforced fairly, without discrimination", said Jokowi in a speech to the annual session of the People's Consultative Assembly at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, August 16.

Jokowi said security, social order, and political stability are the keys. Therefore, according to him, a sense of security and a sense of justice must be guaranteed by the state, especially by law enforcement officers and judicial institutions.

"Legal, social, political, and economic protection for the people must continue to be strengthened. We must continue to guarantee the fulfillment of civil rights and democratic practices, the political rights of women and marginalized groups", said Jokowi.

Likewise with eradicating corruption, Jokowi appealed, this issue must also continue to be a top priority. For example, the major corruptions in Jiwasraya, ASABRI, and Garuda have been successfully dismantled and a total overhaul has begun.

Jokowi asked that the delayed rescue of state assets, such as the BLBI case, continue to be pursued, and has shown results.

"For that, the Police, the Prosecutor's Office, and the KPK continue to move", said Jokowi.

It is known that President Joko Widodo has also paid serious attention to the disclosure of the murder case of Brigadier Nopryansah Yosua Hutabarat or Brigadier J who was shot at the shelter of the former Head of the National Police Police's Professional and Security Division (Propam), Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, on July 8.

Jokowi repeatedly asked the Police to open this case transparently, nothing was covered up. In fact, Jokowi was too lazy to comment on the case because the Police were slow to reveal the motive for the murder which was allegedly masterminded by Inspector General Ferdy Sambo.

The four suspects have been named and charged with Article 340 regarding premeditated murder with the death penalty. Namely, Bharada Richard Eliezer, Bharada Ricky Rizal, Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, and Kuwat.
