Gerindra Supports National Police Chief Disbanding Task Force: Strange If Permanent, Should Be Ad Hoc

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives from the Gerindra faction, Habiburokhman, supports the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo who disbanded the Red and White Police Special Task Force (Satgassus) under the leadership of former Head of the Police's Professional and Security Division (Propam), Inspector General Ferdy Sambo.

According to him, the National Police Task Force should be ad hoc, not permanent.

"We support and respect the decision. Strangely, the Task Force seems to have been made permanent, it should have been ad hoc", Habiburokhman told reporters, Saturday, August 13.

"The one who understands the most about whether or not the Special Task Force has existed since the time of Mr. Tito (Tito Karnavian, ed) is of course the National Police Chief Sigit because he is the user", continued the member of the legal committee.

Habiburokhman assessed that the Task Force was needed if there were special conditions. Because, he said, the duties of the police have been fully carried out by each existing work unit.

"Ideally, the tasks of the police are carried out in full by the work unit there, unless there are special temporary conditions, a Satgassus can be formed", he said.

Previously, National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, officially dissolved the National Police Task Force led by Inspector General Ferdy Sambo on Thursday, August 11.

"This evening, the National Police Chief has officially stopped the activities of the National Police Task Force", said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, Head of Brimob Headquarters Kelapa Dua, Depok, Thursday, August 11.

"This means that there is no longer a Police task force. This is to answer various questions from media colleagues. It is clear for the Police Special Task Force", continued Dedi.

The reason why the National Police Chief dissolved the Satgassus, said Dedi, was for the effectiveness of the National Police's organizational performance.

"For the effectiveness of the organization's performance, it is preferable, or empowered by the work units that handle various cases according to their respective Main Duties and Functions (Tupoksi)", said Dedi.
