SAMPIT - Five crew members of the Cinta Mulia I Motor Sailing Ship that sank at the mouth of the Mentaya River, East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan, were rescued by fishermen who were looking for fish around the scene.

"Alhamdulillah, all the crew members were rescued. We don't yet know what caused the shipwreck," said KLM Cinta Mulia agent chief I Andra in Sampit as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 5.

According to him, the wooden ship departed from Sampit to Semarang on Thursday (4/8), carrying a cargo of palm cake. While in the estuary area, the ship anchors before continuing its journey.

"Unexpectedly, the sea water entered quickly, even though the sea conditions were quite calm. Attempts to dispose of the water using a pump engine did not produce any results, so the ship eventually sank," he said.

According to him, at the time of the incident there were a number of fishing boats around the scene. The fishermen immediately provided assistance and evacuated the five crew members to Ujung Pandaran Village, Teluk Sampit District.

"Sea conditions at the time of the incident were normal. We are grateful and grateful that all crew members were able to be evacuated safely," said Andra.
