DIY Local Government Not Playing In Case Of Students Forced To Wear Hijabs, Will Prepare Sanctions If SMAN 1 Is Proved Guilty

YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta Special Region Government (DIY) has prepared sanctions if it is proven that a student is forced to wear a headscarf against a student at SMA Negeri 1 Banguntapan, Bantul Regency.

"In the process that we are carrying out, if in the future there are elements from the school who commit violations, of course they must be given sanctions," said Head of the DIY Education, Youth and Sports Agency (Disdikpora) Didik Wardaya quoted from the official website of the DIY Regional Government, Antara, Tuesday, August 2nd.

Disdikpiora DIY on Monday examined the school principal, counseling guidance (BK) teacher, religion teacher, and homeroom teacher of SMA Negeri 1 Banguntapan regarding allegations of being forced to wear a headscarf against a class X Muslim student.

According to Didik, if the results of the investigation prove that the school has committed a violation, the DIY Regional Personnel Agency (BKD) will impose sanctions. Regarding the form of the sanction, Didik could not be sure.

"We will see the sanctions from PP Number 94 of 2021 concerning Discipline for Civil Servants. Well, there we will see how far the level of violations he has committed if it is proven," said Didik.

So far, according to him, the teachers suspected of being involved have given different explanations, so it is necessary to cross-check with other related parties.

Didik said that in accordance with Permendikbud Number 45 of 2014 it was regulated that there should be no coercion to use certain religious attributes in public schools.

Schools may not make regulations or appeals for students to use certain religious clothing models as school uniforms.

Schools also may not prohibit participants from wearing school uniforms with specific religious clothing models based on the wishes of the parents, guardians, and students concerned.

"According to central rules, in public schools, Muslim women are allowed to wear Muslim clothing, in this case the hijab. It is also permissible not to wear it. There should be no coercion," said Didik Wardaya.

Previously, the Ombudsman Team of the Republic of Indonesia (ORI) Representative of DIY-Central Java who was monitoring PPDB at SMAN 1 Banguntapan, Bantul Regency, on July 19, 2022 received information that there were students who cried for an hour in the school's bathroom. The DIY ORI team then immediately asked the school for an explanation.

"The principal invited his BK teacher and it was confirmed that there was a student who had been crying in the school toilet for an hour, but his condition was already in the process of calming down at the UKS," said the Head of ORI DIY-Central Java, Budhi Masturi.

At that time, the school informed that a student was experiencing family problems.

Next, on Wednesday (20/7) morning, the Yogyakarta Educational Community Alliance (AMPPY) together with the students' parents reported that a grade X student at SMAN 1 Banguntapan Bantul, Yogyakarta was severely depressed because she was forced to wear a headscarf during the introduction to the school environment (MPLS). ).

The girl was also reported to have locked herself in her living room and was reluctant to talk to her parents.
