SURABAYA - Surabaya Police are still investigating the case of dog slaughter on Jalan Pesapen, Sumur Welut, Lakarsantri, Surabaya.

The investigation was carried out after police and the Community Animals Hope Shelter (AHS) raided a dog slaughterhouse on Sunday, July 31.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Surabaya Police, AKBP Mirzal Maulana, said that his party is currently examining the two managers of the dog meat slaughterhouse.

"From the community reports, we have jointly checked the location with the animal lover community. The findings were followed up with an in-depth examination of the owner and related parties," said Mirzal, confirmed, Monday, August 1.

Meanwhile, the Hope Center Animal Lovers Community, Christian Joshua Pale, explained the beginning of the emergence of the dog slaughter. He found out when his party and the police raided the dog slaughterhouse, after receiving information from a follower on social media.

The information he can get is that there are a number of dog slaughterhouses in Surabaya that have been operating for decades. He also did a search.

"Then I tried to reinvestigate in Surabaya for a week. Finally I found one in Pesapen," said Joshua.

In his search, Joshua pretended to be a potential buyer for the processed dog meat to the butcher. From there, he learned that the price of dog meat was sold at IDR 80,000 per kilogram.

"I disguised myself to buy, they sell per kilo for Rp80 thousand, one tail can be up to 14 kilograms -12 kilograms depending on their weight," he said.

After confirming the location of the dog slaughterhouse, Joshua also reported his findings to the Lakarsantri Police. However, the report was forwarded to Polrestabes Surabaya and received with the number LP/B/862/VII/2022/SPKT/POLRESTABES SURABAYA/POLDA EAST JAVA.

"Finally we made a report to the Lakarsantri Police, but then it was transferred to the Surabaya Police Station," he said.

During the raid, continued Joshua, the Surabaya Polrestabes found four dogs tied up in sacks.

"There are four who are still alive, they are locked in sacks, their feet are tied, their mouths are tied, they are also injured from being beaten," he said.

In addition to the four dogs that were found alive, Joshua also found six other sacks that were thought to have been used as a place for dogs that had been slaughtered.

Now the four living dogs have been evacuated to a safe place, for treatment. Their condition, said Joshua, was stressful.

"They are traumatized, some are injured, they are forced into sacks, their leg bones have problems. We have evacuated them at our place," he said.
