Residents Asked Not To Do Activities At A Radius Of 3 Km From The Peak Of Mount Raung

JEMBER - Sub Coordinator of Volcanology Observation and Investigation of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Akhmad Basuki asked the public not to move within a 3 kilometer radius from the center of the eruption in the crater of the summit of Mount Raung.

"The status of Mount Raung has risen to Alert or Level 2, so the recommendation is that the public and tourists are not allowed to approach the center of the eruption with a radius of 3 km," said Akhmad Basuki as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, July 30.

Mount Raung, which has a height of 3,332 meters above sea level (masl) and is located on the border of Jember, Bondowoso, and Banyuwangi regencies, erupted on Wednesday, July 27, causing a rain of volcanic ash that led to Jember and Bondowoso regencies.

Mount Rawung Alert Status

After evaluation and monitoring by PVMBG officers, the status of Mount Raung has increased from Normal (Level 1) to Alert (Level 2) since July 29, 2022 at 08.00 WIB.

"The character of Mount Raung usually erupts with volcanic ash and sometimes strong gusts also carry volcanic ash material, so people are advised to always wear masks when volcanic ash rains," he said.

The current potential threat of danger is in the form of incandescent rock material, but its distribution is still limited in the crater. Meanwhile, volcanic ash-sized material can be spread further depending on the direction and speed of the wind.

Based on a written report from the Mount Raung Observation Post officer in Banyuwangi Regency, Mount Raung's activity on Friday, July 29 was visually clear and covered in fog, and smoke from the crater was not observed.

For seismic activity, the number of gusts was once with an amplitude of 6 mm, then three times for distant tectonic activity with an amplitude of 3-31 mm, and continuous tremor with an amplitude of 0.5-4 mm.
