JAKARTA - A woman in California, United States is facing a felony kidnapping charge, after hospital workers allegedly caught her posing as a nurse and trying to steal a newborn baby, authorities said.

Jesenea Miron, 23, was arrested after she allegedly disguised herself as a newly recruited nurse and entered the Riverside University Health System unit, the Medical Center where newborns are treated, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a news release, citing CNN July 21.

She is accused of entering patients' rooms on July 14, telling them she was a nurse and trying to retrieve their baby, the sheriff's department said in a release.

A moment later, the hospital staff caught Miron's actions and then alerted security. However, he escaped before he could be caught, the release said.

The baby was in Miron's possession during the incident, but he did not leave the hospital with the baby, Riverside County Sheriff's Department spokesman Edward Soto told CNN.

Investigators identified Miron and arrested him at his Moreno Valley, California, residence, where they also found "evidence," the news release said.

In addition to one felony charge of child abduction, Miron also faces child theft charges, court records show. He has pleaded not guilty, and bail is set at $1 million, records show.

CNN has reached out to John Hale and Miguel Tovar, Miron's attorney, for comment.
