JAKARTA - Ukraine as a country may disappear from the map as a result of the events currently taking place, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel on Thursday.

"After the 2014 coup, Ukraine lost its independence and fell under the collective direct control of the West and began to believe that NATO will guarantee its security," said the former Russian president, launching TASS July 21.

"As a result of all current events, Ukraine may lose what is left of its country's sovereignty and disappear from the world map," the politician added.

Medvedev also reiterated, "Ukrainian criminals will definitely be prosecuted for the atrocities committed against the Ukrainian and Russian people".

Earlier, Medvedev said the country would achieve all its goals and there would be peace in Ukraine. He said Moscow was ready to do whatever it took to win the battle in Ukraine.

"Russia will achieve all its goals. There will be peace, on our decisive terms," Medvedev said.

The Kremlin says there is no time limit for the conflict which Ukraine and the West call a war of unprovoked aggression, designed to seize territory and erase Ukraine's identity.
