JAKARTA - Chairman of the Golkar Party DPD Maman Abdurrahman said the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) must contain a combination of party and popular figures. This step is important because if you only rely on popularism, idealism, the candidate can be displaced.

"We have to be careful when we just choose a candidate who is just popular. (Because, ed) in the end the idealism of the candidate, the elected president, will inevitably have to be shifted a bit because a compromise, a political compromise has to be built," he said. Maman in an online discussion held by Grassroots Strategic Consulting (ARSC) on Wednesday, July 20.

Maman said that the presidential and vice presidential candidates will have to consolidate with other political parties. So, it is necessary to have a political party base.

But, he warned, there should be no stowaway. "There are many examples of cases where he is not a party figure that we support, after that he tends to end up shifting from the ideals of the party's mandate," said Maman.

Thus, the presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 election should come from a combination of party and popular figures. "Come on, at a compromise point, we unite party figures with non-party figures," said Maman.

"Where is the meeting point? Whoever becomes President of the Republic of Indonesia in the future (who is elected) should no longer have to be disturbed by his time to carry out political consolidation and political adaptation which tends to take a long time. The combination of party-popular figures can be a solution," he continued. .

Previously, ARSC said the public wanted the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) to be followed by more than two pairs of candidates. This desire is taken from the responses of 1,225 respondents.

ARSC researcher Bagus Balghi said 29.9 percent of respondents said the 2024 presidential election was ideal for two pairs of candidates to participate in. While the rest chose three pairs of candidates or more.

"32.3% chose the 2024 presidential election followed by three pairs and 18.4 percent followed by four pairs," said Bagus when releasing the results of the online survey, Wednesday, July 20.

While the rest, 13.2 percent of respondents said it was up to them and the remaining 3.8 percent said they didn't know and 2.3 percent did not answer.

"More than two dominant candidate pairs are expected by the public in the upcoming 2024 election," said Bagus.

Furthermore, Bagus said that the combination of the general chairman and popular figures in the survey was approved by 65.1 percent and 34.9 percent not approved.

Meanwhile, for popular figures in the survey, 60 percent of the respondents agreed with political party leaders and 40 percent of respondents did not. Then, the two leaders of political parties were approved by 50.2 percent and both popular figures were approved by 63.4 percent.
