PALEMBANG - A total of three houses on Jalan Colonel H Burlian, Karya Baru Village, Alang-alang Lebar District, Palembang City, South Sumatra (Sumsel) caught fire.

Independent Post Officer of the Palembang Fire and Disaster Management Service Noprianto said officers confirmed the fire incident at 07.45 WIB from local residents' reports.

"Five units of fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene with the fire blazing heavily," he explained at the location as reported by Antara, Wednesday, July 20 afternoon.

The officers poured water from the fire engine for about 30 minutes to reach all the hotspots that scorched the semi-permanent house as well as the fried food stall.

The process of extinguishing the fire was colored by the hysterical screams of local residents. Not to mention the sound of the horns of motorized vehicles stuck in traffic when the officers were struggling to extinguish the fire.

Until finally the fire was extinguished by officers and local residents around 08.20 WIB.

Meanwhile, a local resident, Rusdi (45) said that the fire was thought to have originated from sparks from the stove that grabbed a jerry can when the fried food stall owner was cooking his wares. Due to this incident, the fried food stall owner Darwin (43) suffered burns to his legs.

According to him, the victim suffered these injuries while saving his gas cylinder from the fire to avoid an explosion.

"As a result of these injuries the victim was rushed to a local health clinic for medical treatment," he said.

The fire incident is currently being handled by local police officers.
