Hit By Flash Floods In Several Areas, Garut Regency Government Sets Emergency Response Status For 2 Weeks

GARUT - The Government of Garut Regency, West Java, has set a period of emergency response status for the next two weeks since the flash flood hit a number of sub-districts in this area, since Friday, July 15 night.

"In two weeks, yes, after that there will be rehabilitation and reconstruction, so we separated the proposals for the emergency response, how much for the emergency response, how much for the rehabilitation," said Garut Deputy Regent Helmi Budiman after chairing a coordination meeting on flood and landslide handling at the Disaster Management Agency office. The determination of the emergency status for two weeks was decided with the Regent Rudy Gunawan, BPBD Garut, and West Java Province, as well as representatives from the local DPRD.

Helmi said that the Garut Regency Government is currently still collecting data on losses and what is affected by floods and landslides, as well as data on the needs of the people who are victims of the disaster.

He said that while reports in the field were 32 villages/kelurahan from 14 sub-districts affected by floods and landslides in urban areas and other areas in Garut Regency.

"We instruct the village heads as well as RT and RW to provide accurate and accountable data, because the data will later become the basis for distributing aid," he said.

Helmi said that the results of direct observations of flood-affected areas needed attention from the government, for that the government prepared programs and direct assistance to flood victims.

He conveyed that the assistance that had been distributed included the provision of clean water, then food which became the basic needs for flood victims.

He appreciated the surrounding community by working together to help their neighbors who were victims of the flood, so that the burden was lighter to clean the house and the surrounding environment.

"I thank the residents here who have helped from their neighbors, then also the people here immediately built a public kitchen, and there was a request to make a public kitchen here, God willing, there is land here, we will build a public kitchen," Helmi said when reviewing flooded areas in Dayeuh Handap, Garut Kota District.
