DENPASAR - Central General Hospital (RSUP) Sanglah, Denpasar, Bali, will bear a new name to Prof dr I Goesti Ngoerah Gde Ngoerah Hospital (RSUP).
The name change was proposed by the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster. The proposal to change the name of Sanglah Hospital has been approved by the Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin
"Regarding (the change) with the name of the Sanglah hospital, yes, it is true. Therefore, from a legal aspect, it is already there", said Sanglah Hospital President Director, I Wayan Sudana, Friday, July 15.
The governor of Bali is known to have sent a letter numbered 440/1964/Yankes.Diskes on February 11, 2020, to the Ministry of Health. The letter contained a proposal to change the name of Sanglah Hospital to Prof. Dr. IGN Gde Ngoerah Hospital.
The Bali Governor's letter is based on the letter from the Bali Provincial Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Number 593/605/DPRD dated January 20, 2020, which proposes to change the name of Sanglah Hospital to Prof. Dr. IGN Gde Ngoerah Hospital.
"He (Minister of Health) through his letter dated March 28, 2022, has agreed. So that it is processed, there is a mechanism, so that the Minister of Health and the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) have issued a hospital operating permit, on July 7, 2022 This is with the new name Prof dr I Goesti Ngoerah Gde Ngoerah Hospital", said Sudana.
Even though the operational permit has been allowed to use a new name, the administration still needs to be completed.
"In its historical record, (Sanglah Hospital) is only a small polyclinic but has provided health services. Then, 1959 or three years later it was extraordinary. So it was inaugurated as a Class C Hospital by the first President of Indonesia Soekarno. Indeed, at that time it was a hospital class C only about 150 beds", said Sudana.

After being inaugurated by President Soekarno, Sanglah Hospital continued to grow and opened many services until it finally became a class A hospital.
"It is now a class A hospital and a referral center both nationally and for Bali and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT)", said Sudana.
Prof Ngoerah's name was chosen because he was a prominent figure in the struggle for pre-independence Indonesia. Ngoerah is also a surgeon at the Red Cross unit in Jakarta and Purwakarta.
"He is a health leader in Bali. At that time he was already the first presidential doctor, President Soekarno", he said.
