JAKARTA - The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government stated that the reason for setting a tariff of IDR 3.75 million to enter Komodo Island and Padar Island was a form of social responsibility for tourists to protect the environment.

"We want tourists to have a sense of belonging to conservation, ecosystem preservation, and the preservation of Komodo dragons. This is the only animal, we need to take care of it, tourists also contribute", said East Nusa Tenggara Head of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sony Z Libing in Labuan Bajo, Thursday, July 14, reported by Antara.

The provincial government has set the entrance fee for Komodo Island, Padar Island, and the surrounding waters at IDR 3.75 million through the results of an academic study by environmental experts from IPB Bogor and the University of Indonesia. They were specifically asked to study the carrying capacity of the two islands.

The decision was taken based on a policy of cooperation between the central government and the provincial government so that there is a permit to carry out tourism service activities on the two islands.

In the socialization that took place in the Hall of the West Manggarai Regent's Office with tourism actors, Sony said that the entry fee would start on August 1, 2022.

However, for tourism actors who have received payment for travel requests until December 2022, the government will provide concessions for using the old tariffs.

Sony explained that the government will carry out further research related to the characteristics of the Komodo dragon's ecosystem and feed so that these ancient animals still exist today. In addition, the provincial government and the central government continue to carry out conservation efforts to keep the Komodo dragon's ecosystem and food sustainable.

Do not remain silent, the government will carry out economic empowerment of local communities through training and mentoring, as well as community-based tourism.

Furthermore, he said that there were many cases of illegal hunting, damage to coral reefs, and fires that disrupted the Komodo dragon's habitat ecosystem. Therefore, the government carries out supervision and security at the location by involving stakeholders.

"The government will also carry out waste management in the vicinity and organize tourism travel management", he said.

He emphasized that the provincial government had no intention of harming the people by taking this policy. The tariff set is of course to finance the things that have been mentioned, including the fulfillment of amenities.

The ticket fare is also used for promotional costs, non-tax state revenue (PNBP), and revenue for local revenue (PAD).
