Mardani Maming Doesn't Respond To Calls For Investigation Of Investigators, KPK: Pretrial Will Not Stop Investigations

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) emphasized that the pretrial process proposed by former Tanah Bumbu Regent Mardani H. Maming at the South Jakarta District Court (PN) did not stop the ongoing investigation.

This assertion was conveyed in response to the statement of Mardani H. Maming's attorney, Denny Indrayana, who stated that his client was not present at the summons as a suspect today, Thursday, July 14. The General Treasurer of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) was not present because the pretrial process was still ongoing.

"The pretrial process does not stop the ongoing investigation process at all," said Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, to reporters, Thursday, July 14.

Ali appreciates the ongoing pretrial process. However, he reminded that the legal effort was not to examine the subject matter of the alleged bribery and gratification that ensnared Mardani.

"The pretrial is not an arena to examine the main material of the investigation process of this case," he said.

"Regarding the subject matter of the case, please let us examine it together in front of the panel of judges in the corruption court," continued Ali.

Mardani will actually be questioned today, Thursday, July 14 as a suspect. However, he was not present and his attorney sent a letter.

Mardani H. Maming's attorney, Denny Indrayana, said the letter asked all parties to respect the ongoing pretrial process. "And because of that, he did not carry out a preliminary examination to wait for the process and decision at the South Jakarta District Court," he said in a written statement.

Previously, Mardani Maming was said to have received Rp 89 billion in money in a trial for alleged bribery of a mining business permit (IUP) in Tanah Bumbu Regency which was held at the Tipikor Court, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Kalsel).

This allegation was conveyed by the younger brother of former President Director of PT Prolindo Cipta Nusantara (PCN) Henry Soetio, Christian Soetio. At that time, Christian claimed to know that there was a flow of funds to the former Regent of Tanah Bumbu Mardani H Maming through PT Permata Abadi Raya (PAR) and PT Trans Surya Perkasa (TSP).

The money transfer has been going on since 2014. The amount of tens of billions of rupiah is referred to as the amount quoted based on PT PCN's financial statements.
