Mardani Maming's Pretrial Trial Against The KPK Postponed South Jakarta District Court, Bambang Widjojanto: What Documents Are Being Prepared?

JAKARTA - The South Jakarta District Court (PN) has postponed a pretrial hearing proposed by former Tanah Bumbu Regent Mardani H. Maming. The trial was supposed to be held today.

The pretrial was postponed because the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as the respondent requested a delay in the trial time to the panel of judges.

"The trial will continue on Tuesday, July 19, 2022," said the panel of judges in the trial room I of the South Jakarta District Court, Tuesday, July 12.

Regarding this delay, Mardani Maming's attorney, Bambang Widjojanto or BW, said that the reasons put forward by the KPK to postpone the trial were unreasonable.

The KPK is known to have asked for a delay in the trial time because it is currently finalizing the files and administration in this case.

"It is the right of the KPK if it can't. Only if you use common sense and sanity, what documents are being prepared," said BW to reporters.

Bambang assessed that this kind of thing should not have happened. Moreover, his client saw that this criminal matter was related to business.

Thus, the determination of the suspect against Mardani is considered a form of criminalization. "There is a fundamental issue here, namely the investment business and economic growth which are alleged to have been criminalized, which are very fundamental issues," he said.

Even so, the legal counsel handed over the judicial process to the panel of judges at the pretrial hearing. They will follow the ongoing trial.

Mardani filed a pretrial lawsuit to the South Jakarta District Court after receiving a letter of naming the suspect from the KPK. The Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) appointed members of the Governor's Team for the Acceleration of Development (TGUPP) DKI Jakarta Bambang Widjojanto and former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Denny Indrayana as legal counsel.

The chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) has been named a suspect in allegations of bribery and gratification related to mining permits in Tanah Bumbu, Kalimantan. This corrupt practice allegedly occurred when Mardani was still in office.

The Corruption Eradication Commission's determination of Maming as a suspect was initially discovered by the Directorate General of Immigration when confirming the existence of prevention abroad. Meanwhile, the KPK has not made an announcement because efforts to force detention have not been carried out.
