JAKARTA - Politician and Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Fadli Zon was presented as witnesses at the trial of the alleged hoax spread case with the defendant Bahar Smith at the Bandung District Court, Bandung City, West Java today.
Bahar Smith's attorney, Ichwan Tuankotta, said Fadli Zon was present as a witness who helped the families of victims of the shooting of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI).
The reason is, the trial is related to Bahar who is suspected of spreading hoaxes related to the death of the FPI Laskar.
"Fadli Zon's capacity was that he was a member of the DPR, at that time he was helping," said Ichwan as quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 7.
Fadli Zon arrived at the Bandung District Court, Thursday, at around 15:44 WIB. Apart from Fadli Zon, there were two other mitigating witnesses presented at the trial, namely Marwan Batubara and Refli Harun.
Marwan was also asked for his statement regarding the shooting of the FPI laskar, while Refli was an expert witness on state administration and legal comparison.
Meanwhile, Fadli Zon explained that he had indeed been asked by the victim's family to help retrieve the body.
"In detail, maybe it can be asked directly to the victim's family, but there are difficulties or for too long the body is in the hospital. I was there for hours," said Fadli.
After the body could be taken and taken to the funeral home, Fadli admitted that he saw firsthand the condition of one of the bodies. According to him, there were injuries other than gunshot wounds to the body.
"So the family wanted to pray and it was agreed to take the body to Petamburan at the request of the family, which was not originally going to be brought there," he added.
The chairman of the Halim Council, Dodong Rusdani, confirmed that Fadli Zon was considered to have confirmed Bahar Smith's statement regarding the alleged torture. The reason is, Fadli Zon only saw the condition of the body in a lifeless condition.
"Did the witness see the torture? The witness saw only the wound," asked the judge.
Fadli replied that he saw firsthand that the victim was dead and he did not see any torture.
"So, I saw that the body was dead, but when asked about torture, of course I didn't see it. But from the condition of the body there were injuries and bruises, it was a fact," he said.
