Five Thousand Sacrificial Animals That Will Enter Jakarta Have Not Been Quarantined, DPRD: Should The Supply Be Stopped

JAKARTA - Around 5 thousand sacrificial animals that will be distributed from outside the region to Jakarta for sale ahead of Eid al-Adha have not yet undergone a quarantine period. In the current epidemic of mouth and nail disease (PMK), all animals must undergo a 14-day quarantine period. Meanwhile, Eid al-Adha celebrations fall on Sunday, July 10, or the remaining four days.

In response to this, Deputy Chairman of Commission C of the DKI DPRD from the PDIP faction, Rasyidi, considered it better for the DKI Provincial Government to stop the distribution of sacrificial animals that have not been quarantined.

"Actually, we agreed because it was for worship. However, considering the 14-day incubation period, it is best to stop the supply of sacrificial animals. The timing is not possible because Iduladha is on July 10," said Rasyidi to reporters, Wednesday, July 6.

Moreover, continued Rasyidi, now there are tens of thousands of sacrificial animals that have entered Jakarta and have been quarantined.

Regarding these animals, Rasyidi advised the DKI Provincial Government to continue to carry out intensive inspections to ensure that the animals consumed in Jakarta are free from FMD.

"The problem of disease for incoming sacrificial animals must be checked. There must be an intensive examination. This means that supplies from outside must be really healthy, so there is no spread of PMK," he said.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the Ministry of Agriculture signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreement in the context of providing sacrificial animals and strategic food supplies.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that there would be 47 thousand sacrificial animals to be distributed ahead of this year's Eid. As many as 42,000 of them have undergone quarantine.

"Jakarta has a projected demand of 47 thousand heads for this weekend's qurbani. Currently, 42 thousand have entered Jakarta and they are all undergoing quarantine procedures and so on so, God willing, the status in Jakarta will remain green and safe from PMK, " said Anies in Jakarta, Monday, July 4.

Meanwhile, as many as 5,000 other livestock are still on their way. He ensured that all of these livestock would later go through the same procedure. "There are still 5,000 on the way. It is projected that it will be completed before Eid al-Adha celebrations," he explained.
