Remind Important Updates, Bawaslu Calls Voter List A Potential Problem

BANYUMAS - The Bawaslu of Banyumas Regency reminded the importance of continuously updating voter data (DPB) in an election process because it will be the database for the preparation of the final voter list.

"The voter list for an election process is very important because it is the crown of a democratic party," said the Coordinator of the Prevention and Inter-Institutional Relations Division of the Banyumas Regency Bawaslu, Yon Daryono, in Purwokerto, Central Java, Monday, July 4.

He said, if the voter list is not accurate, then the election results will be a potential problem, both for the winners and losers.

According to him, those who lost could claim that the election process was unfair, not transparent, or dishonest because the voter list was inaccurate.

In this case, the inaccurate voter list is caused by voters who have not been accommodated or declared ineligible even though they are actually still eligible to become voters and so on.

"Once again, the voter list is the crown of the election because the election has three important elements, namely voters, the people elected or the election participants themselves, and the election organizers," he said.

He conveyed that elections would be flawed in terms of the essence of democracy when one of these elements was inaccurate, not good, or even non-existent.

Related to this, Yon said in the Work Meeting for Supervision of Updating Permanent Voter Data at the Bawaslu Office of Banyumas Regency on June 30, 2022, voter data that was declared ineligible (TMS) reached 2,218 people.

According to him, this happened because of the process of matching voter data, both at the General Election Commission (KPU) and data obtained by the KPU based on reports and field verification.

"This includes reports from other 'stakeholders', such as the Dindukcapil, Religious Courts, and the COVID-19 Task Force because there are significant data changes," he said.

He said that as many as 2,218 voters declared by TMS were among others because they died, moved their domicile outside the region, and changed their status to become members of the TNI/Polri.

In addition, in the continuous updating of voter data (GDP), there are potential new voters as many as 601 people. Thus, the DPB in June 2022 was recorded as 1,351,487 people, consisting of 674,497 men and 676,990 women.

"We urge the public to report to Bawaslu if there are changes in population data in the surrounding environment, for example there are residents who pass away, change addresses both in and out of the area, and changes in TNI/Polri status," he said.
