Pity! Overwhelmed By Many Developments, DPRD Says Ambon Lacks Water Catchment Points

AMBON - Ambon has lost water catchment areas due to the large number of building constructions in a number of areas.

"The more buildings that are built, the land for water infiltration will automatically decrease. This is the problem we are currently facing in Ambon," said Chairman of Commission II of the Ambon DPRD, Christianto Laturiuw, at the Ambon DPRD Building, Antara, Thursday, June 30.

Laturiuw asked the government not to allow anyone to build housing or any buildings in areas that have a lot of rainfall.

“The government must also find a solution to the environmental damage that occurred after the construction in the water catchment area. Don't just tell the problem, but there is no right solution," he said.

The city government should cooperate with the Faculty of Agriculture, Pattimura University, Ambon, and discuss what types of plants are appropriate to be able to protect the environment, especially those that can be useful for maintaining water absorption.

"For example, what plants should be planted and maintained to ensure water sustainability in water catchment areas. This must be communicated," he said.

According to him, do not plant trees just to beautify the scenery, but also plant many trees that are beneficial for the survival of many people.

“What is beautiful in the eyes is not necessarily healthy for the environment. So make other policies for this problem. If not, one day we will really be on the verge of a water crisis in Ambon City," he concluded.
