JAKARTA - A CCTV camera recording shows the moments of the theft of a charity box in a prayer room in the Ciracas area, East Jakarta.

The perpetrators stole all the charitable money which was estimated to be more than one million rupiah. From CCTV camera footage, a man can be seen entering the At-Taqwa prayer room located at Gang Garuda 3, Cibubur, Ciracas, East Jakarta, Wednesday, June 29.

Iwan, the prayer room administrator, said that the perpetrator carried out the theft when the atmosphere seemed deserted after the congregation finished the midday prayer.

"The person (perpetrator) pretended to pray, previously I suspected there were people. At Zuhur, there were people riding black motorbikes," he told reporters, Wednesday, June 29.

The perpetrators entered the prayer room not to worship, but to take charity money. After seeing the target object, the perpetrator pryed the top of the money box.

"Maybe over a million more (which was stolen), usually almost a million and a half (if the money in the charity box is full)," he said.

Once opened, the perpetrator took all the charity money without any residue. After succeeding, the perpetrator closed the charity box again and fled with his motorbike.

"There have been three thefts. This is an outsider (perpetrator)," he said.

Even though there are frequent thefts of charity boxes, the muasala administrator does not report the theft of charity money to the police.
