JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan chose an asymmetric policy in setting the minimum wage in 2021. This is due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has an impact on the economic conditions of some business sectors.
"By considering and upholding a sense of justice, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has set an asymmetrical policy for the 2021 UMP," Anies said in a written statement, Saturday, October 31.
Anies said, COVID-19 had an impact on economic conditions and the ability of companies to fulfill workers' rights, including in paying wages.
Therefore, Anies made adjustments to the determination of the provincial minimum wage (UMP) 2021 with the 2020 UMP for companies affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, there are still business sectors that are not too affected and can even continue to grow positively during this pandemic. Thus, the business sector that was not affected by the pandemic in Jakarta experienced an increase in the minimum wage of 3.27 percent.
"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has set the amount of DKI Jakarta UMP in 2021 at Rp. 4,416,186. Meanwhile, companies affected by COVID-19 can use the same value as the 2020 UMP," explained Anies.
Furthermore, Anies hopes that business sectors not affected by the pandemic are expected to maintain the purchasing power of workers or laborers which will encourage economic growth in DKI Jakarta.
Anies also said that his party was trying to make other alternatives besides wage increases in order to improve the welfare of workers / laborers in DKI Jakarta.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also collaborates with the community, especially workers / laborers in order to develop welfare improvement programs. One result is the Jakarta Worker Card program.
"The Jakarta Worker Card is a policy program of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in order to improve the welfare of workers / laborers by reducing the burden of transportation, food, and education costs for child workers / laborers," he explained.
The following are the facilities obtained from the Jakarta Worker Card:
1. Free facilities for taking Transjakarta buses on 13 corridors
2. Jakgrosir membership facility, which is to shop for daily necessities products at low prices in Jakgrosir
3. Food supply facilities at low prices, namely being able to shop for 5 items of food including rice, chicken, beef / buffalo, mackerel and eggs at subsidized prices
4. KJP Plus facilities and affirmation quota for child workers.
