JAKARTA - Malaysia ended the massive implementation of the Compliance Operations carried out to curb non-compliance with COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) at the national level on June 25 after the country entered the endemic phase transition.

Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Hamzah Zainudin added that the Coordination Committee for the Enforcement and Compliance SOP for the COVID-19 Movement Control Order (MCO) was formed to mobilize Operation Obedience, which was launched in June 2021.

The committee spearheaded by the Ministry of Home Affairs involves 32 ministries, departments and agencies that enforce directives and laws on the ground to curb the spread of COVID-19.

"During the Compliance Operation until June 25, 5.55 million inspections have been carried out. Of that total, around 13,143 'tickets' were issued, and 6,383 places were ordered to close," he said as quoted by Antara from Bernama, Thursday, June 28.

Hamzah said the government had also decided to end the appointment of officials authorized under the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act 1988 on June 30.

"As the country enters its transition to an endemic phase, the police will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Health in the enforcement of SOPs and the transition to endemic protocols under the 1967 Police Act," he said.
