WEST SUMATERA - The government of West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra conducted a digital population identity test or digital ID card.

Before being determined to apply to the general public, an experiment was carried out involving employees of the West Sumatra Population and Civil Registry Office.

"We will implement a digital population identity. So, people no longer need to have an identity card in the form of a card anymore," said Head of the West Pasaman Population and Civil Registry Office, Yulisna, at Simpang Empat, West Sumatra, Monday 27 June.

She said that the digital identity will be implemented for the general public at the end of this year.

"The target in the fourth semester of this year has been realized," she said.

Through this digital population identity, she said, people no longer need to have a physical ID card. However, it is already available on smartphones through an application prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

This digital population identity is an innovation initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The goal, is to facilitate access and make the budget efficiency.

"So in the future, people who want to transact who need an e-KTP will only need to use this application," she said.

She explained, to create a digital population identity is also quite easy. As for how to do it, it is enough to include a Population Identification Number (NIK), a cellphone number that is integrated into WhatsApp, and an email address.

Her party is ready to implement the use of digital population identity.

"Our employees have also followed technical guidance for the use of this digital resident identity," she added.

Meanwhile, Associate Expert Computer Data Expert Sahri Wahyuni added that the implementation of digital population identity will be carried out on people with certain segments first.

"We'll start with Disdukcapil employees, then later West Pasaman Regency Government employees, to the general public," she said.
