SURABAYA - The proposal to bring a cheat sheet in the Surabaya Pilkada debate was rejected by the candidate pair for mayor-deputy mayor, Eri Cahyadi-Armuji.

This suggestion was raised during a technical meeting at the KPU office in Surabaya, which was attended by the two teams of candidate pairs on Monday, October 26. The Surabaya Pilkada inaugural debate is scheduled to be held on November 4.

Liaison Officer (LO) Eri Cahyadi-Armuji, Wimbo Ernanto, said that his party suggested that candidate pairs must be free of cheat sheets containing data material.

"The team next door refused. They hoped that the candidate pair would be allowed to bring data or cheat materials," he said when confirmed, Wednesday, October 28.

According to Wimbo, by not reading a copy of the data material by candidate pairs, the public can judge the original understanding of the candidate pairs about the city of Surabaya.

"From there, the public can find out who is a leader who understands the ins and outs of Surabaya with all its problems and solutions. Understanding of the concept, details and solutions," added Wimbo who is also Deputy Chairman of the Surabaya City PDI Perjuangan DPC.

"The organizers provide space backstage for the team to discuss before the debate event. That's enough, it's just how the pair of candidates really master the material by heart," he continued.

When the meeting point was confirmed regarding the proposal rejected by candidate pair number 2, Wimbo said that discussions would still be carried out.

"Yesterday the KPU could not decide, because it will still be studied in PKPU. The point is we are still proposing it," he said.

An open debate for the 2020 Surabaya Pilkada candidate pair is scheduled to be held on November 4 at the JW Marriott Hotel. Eri Cahyadi-Armuji will collide with Machfud Arifin-Mujiaman.

According to the regulations, debate participants are limited to 7 people per candidate pair, consisting of Cawali and Cawawali, 4 debate teams and 1 documentation section.
