Interfaith Marriage Legalized By The Surabaya District Court, PSI: Don't Make It Difficult, Or Are You More Agreeing With Relationships Outside Marriage?

JAKARTA - PSI politician Guntur Romli alias Gun Romli said interfaith marriages should not be discussed. He responded to the marriage of Muslims and Christians which was approved by the Surabaya District Court (PN).

"People want to get married, why is it difficult," commented Gun Romli on his Twitter account, @GunRomli, Tuesday, June 21. According to him, marriage plans that do not violate individual rights should be smoothed out. It would be better if the husband-wife relationship was legalized on the basis of full commitment and consensual.

"On the choice of a partner, no one is forced and harmed," he added.

Gun Romli said that he questioned the application of interfaith brides so that their marriages were legally valid would add new problems.

If that happens, he continued, it can increase the potential for marriage outside the laws of each religion and belief.

"I want it to be official and protected by law, this makes it difficult for marriage, including different religions," he said.

Finally, Gun Romli sanctioned people who questioned interfaith marriages. He wondered if they didn't think a clandestine relationship would lead to new polemics.

"Would you prefer a relationship outside of marriage?" he said.
