JAKARTA - State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir guarantees the quality of the COVID-19 vaccine that will be used in Indonesia according to standards recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).

"So if we talk about quality, it is certain that what will be given to the people will be the quality that is up to standard. It is impossible for us to do something that endangers the people," said Erick when he was a speaker at the Online DIY Development Control Coordination Meeting for the 3rd Quarter of 2020, reported by Antara, Wednesday , October 28th.

In addition to collaborating with WHO and a number of international organizations to ensure its quality, according to Erick, BPOM was also asked to conduct clinical trials on the vaccine.

"For the issue of halal and haram, it is the same. We have involved MUI from the start in the vaccine testing process in Bandung. We even sent MUI representatives to China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)," he said.

He hopes that all regional leaders will help disseminate information related to vaccines well to their citizens.

According to Erick, in the future the vaccination program is divided into two, namely free vaccination for economically disadvantaged people and paid vaccines for the middle class.

According to him, vaccine orders will take place in stages with an average of 10 million to 20 million per month to reach all Indonesian people. "Because we order vaccines, it doesn't mean that the goods will come at the same time," he said.

Erick said the development of the red and white vaccine is very important so that by 2022 Indonesia will no longer depend on vaccines made in foreign countries.
