JAKARTA - Governor of the Riau Islands (Kepri) Ansar Ahmad said the F1 car racing circuit in Bintan, Riau Islands, would be the first circuit with a green concept or green circuit in Indonesia.
According to him, the F1 circuit is close to the mangrove conservation area in Lagoi, Bintan. That way, the existence of this circuit is in line with efforts to prioritize environmental friendliness in accordance with the main priorities of the G20 in Indonesia.
"The advantage of the circuit in Bintan is that there is a mangrove forest or mangrove conservation, that can be our main attraction with the green circuit concept," said Ansar, quoted from Antara, Monday, June 20.
He said that the development of the Bintan International Green Circuit construction project became clearer after he and his staff held further discussions with the Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly and the Chairman of the Indonesian Motorcycle Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo in Jakarta, Saturday, June 18.
"We discussed the latest developments regarding the circuit to be built in the Lagoi tourist area," he said.
Ansar explained that mangrove forest conservation is also the main concern of President Joko Widodo by planting mangrove trees on Setokok Island, Batam, on September 28, 2021.
Mangrove forests can function to improve coastal ecosystems, reduce seawater abrasion, and reduce carbon emissions more than tropical forests on land.
The government is targeting to rehabilitate 34,000 hectares of mangrove forest this year or 600,000 hectares by 2024.
"The mangrove forest around the circuit is indeed very wide, it can take an hour and a half if we go around, so the concept of this circuit is very eco-tourism-minded," said Ansar.
