JAKARTA – Staying in prison does not deter SE and MR inmates from violating the law. The two people actually committed fraud using cellphones from inside the cell. Unmitigated, to the victims they claimed to be members of the Police.

In launching their action, SE and MR claimed to be West Jakarta Metro Police Deputy AKBP Bismo Teguh Prakoso. The two perpetrators deceived a number of businessmen in the West Jakarta area.

This case came to light when the victims felt something was wrong. The reason is, AKBP Bismo is no longer serving as Wakapolres Metro West Jakarta. Bismo is currently the Chief of Police in Ciamis and Majalengka.

"By pretending to be Deputy Chief of Police AKBP Bismo, the perpetrators asked businessmen for some money," said West Jakarta Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKBP Joko Dwi Harsono to reporters, Friday, June 17.

AKBP Joko Dwi said SE and MR committed fraud from within the prison. However, Joko did not specify the name of the prison in question.

"So these two people edited the Wakapolres data by taking photos and data from Google. Then they edited it as if it was true the Wakapolres. They edited it using an application," he said.

The perpetrators, continued Joko, obtained the contacts of entrepreneurs based on searches on Google, using cellphones. Then they have a conversation (chat) with the victim.

One of the fraud attempts they carried out was when the perpetrator tried to deceive the tent entrepreneur.

"The truth is, the West Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief has never rented a tent or transferred it," he said.

After checking, the victim saw that there was absolutely no money transferred by the perpetrator.

"The perpetrator also ordered a tent with the mode of excess transfer, then the victim (tent entrepreneur) was told to return the money. So they provoked them by sending proof of the transfer of money, which was called the excess transfer," he said.

"They have also asked businessmen for some money, one of which was a flower shop and a cake shop," he added.

Suspecting the modus operandi of the perpetrator, the victim finally contacted the West Jakarta Metro Police Deputy AKBP Bismo Teguh Prakoso.

"When confirmed directly by the entrepreneur to the Wakapolres, Mr. Waka said that he had never rented, bought or had excess transfers," he said.

Since then the victim realized he had been deceived. The police who conducted the investigation learned that the two perpetrators were in a prison in Jakarta.

Then in March 2022, investigators went straight to the prison in question to arrest the two perpetrators.

SE perpetrators are known to be convicts with fraud cases. Meanwhile, MR is a convict with a drug case.

SE plays the role of a person who asks entrepreneurs for money, while MR acts as a person who edits the Wakapolres data using an application on his cellphone.
