Wave Reaches 4 Meters, Kulon Progo Fishermen Are Not Go To Sea

JAKARTA - The Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (DKP) of Kulon Progo Regency has appealed to fishermen to take a break from fishing first. Sea waves as high as 2-4 meters hit the district of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).

Head of Fishermen Empowerment and Management of Fish Auction Places at the Kulon Kulon Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP), Wakhid Purwosubiyantara, said the appeal was following up on a warning previously released by the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG).

"We urge fishermen at TPI Trisik Banaran not to go to sea first. The safety of fishermen is much more important", said Wakhid on the sidelines of monitoring after a high wave at TPI Trisik, Kulon Progo, quoted from Antara, Thursday, June 16.

Fishermen are asked to stay safe and obey all warnings issued by the BMKG because lately, the weather is difficult to predict, even though this is already the lean season. After all, fish in the sea are difficult to catch, which usually occurs from May to September.

He said the high waves at Trisik Beach penetrated the thickets of pine prawns to the lagoon and swept away the sea pandanus plants which had just been planted independently by the Nature and Wildlife Conservation Group as many as 200 stems south of the Trisik lagoon, which is expected to be able to withstand abrasion.

"The building in the Trisik Beach area was badly damaged due to being hit by high waves. Then many pine shrimp plants collapsed as well", he said.

SAR Coordinator for the Glagah community, Aris Widyatmoko, said the high waves caused several stalls and toilets at Trisik Beach to collapse. The TPI Trisik Beach is also almost submerged due to abrasion.

Then, the southern area was hit by high waves and caused abrasion, namely the south of Yogyakarta International Airport.

"Meanwhile, fishermen in Kulon Progo themselves have not gone to sea for the last three days because the sea waves are already high", he said.
