Police Anticipate Plans For June 14th Demonstration In Jayawijaya Papua

WAMENA - Jayawijaya Resort Police personnel in Papua anticipate plans for an unauthorized demonstration on June 14 tomorrow.

Jayawijaya Police Chief, AKBP Muh Safei said the police had banned demonstrations at the Jayawijaya DPRD building after the incident by demonstrators pulling a broken flagpole and causing the Red and White flag to fall.

"Regarding tomorrow on the 14th (June), hopefully the person in charge of the action can coordinate the things that need to be discussed related to the existing regional conditions," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, June 13.

"We suggest that only 50 people can come to the DPRD for dialogue, but the coordinators are still thinking so they have not provided the latest information regarding their plans," added Safei.

The police forbade demonstrations with large crowds because at seven demonstrations in Jayawijaya, the activities of some people, such as economic activity, were hampered.

The police have received leaflets that have been distributed on social media that the masses will not hold a demonstration but a group worship that is planned to take place at the Jayawijaya Papua Customary Council office.

"We are still monitoring whether it happens there, then what kind of activities. But we from the police continue to make preventive efforts to prevent unwanted things," he said.
