Minang Politician Asks Nasi Padang Babiambo Restaurant To Change Name

JAKARTA - Member of the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of West Sumatra II, John Kenedy Azis, also highlighted the emergence of the Padang rice restaurant which provides a pork-based menu. He regretted naming the culinary business because it was considered too frontal.

"Frankly, I regret that there are people who make pork Padang rice. His name is Babiambo, I'm Ambo, I'm a pig," said John Kenedy to reporters, Friday, June 10.

According to the member of Commission VIII of the DPR who is in charge of religion, in addition to using pork for Padang rice it vilifies the Minang people, the law is also haram for Muslims.

Moreover, said John Kenedy, the Minangkabau people have a philosophy of life that is identical to Islam. Not to mention that during this time, the average Padang cuisine is labeled as halal food.

"Our guide to life is the Basandi Syarak Syarak Basandi Kitabullah tradition. The book of Allah is the Qur'an. The Qur'an is the book of Muslims. It is forbidden for Muslims to eat pork," said the Padang-born DPR member.

Therefore, Golkar politicians ask all parties to respect the values of the Minangkabau community. Don't openly discredit the Minang people

"Respect, tolerance for Minang people. There are no people from other communities who openly like that. So it's like discrediting Minang people, Minang Muslims," he said.

John Kenedy also asked that the name of the Babiambo restaurant be changed if it is not closed.

"So I asked the restaurant to be closed. Or change its name. Don't use that name," said John.
