PALU - The Palu City Government cooperates with community social workers (PSM) to overcome social problems in the capital city of Central Sulawesi Province, in order to create a just and prosperous society.

"Social problems must be handled by multiple parties, one of which is PSM as our partner in the field in charge of providing social welfare," said Head of the Palu City Social Service Romy Sandi Agung who was met in Palu, Thursday 9 June.

He explained the main tasks of PSM, apart from providing social welfare, also providing assistance and identification of the poor who cannot fulfill their basic needs.

So, he said, the implementation of governance in the social sector can have a positive impact on the risk of welfare inequality, in which the government is responsible for fulfilling the basic rights of people who cannot fulfill basic needs.

Therefore, PSM is not only a partner, but also as the frontline in providing services and assistance to those who have economic limitations.

"They also play a role in registering the poor who have not been included in the integrated social welfare data, so that with the presence of social workers, it is easier for the government to intervene in aid," said Romy.

He also appreciated the PSM's performance, because thanks to their assistance in supporting the Palu City Government program, lately the beggars and homeless people in the Central Sulawesi Capital City are slowly decreasing.

In addition, the task of PSM is also to assist the government in assisting neglected children, neglected children with disabilities to obtain basic needs, including being involved in handling stunting or stunting.

"As a form of appreciation for the Palu City Government, in 2023 the incentives for them will be increased from IDR 300 thousand per month to IDR 500 thousand per month," said Romy.

He added that PSM was formed based on the Minister of Social Affairs Regulation Number 23 of 2011 concerning Community Social Workers, so that in its main tasks it is more directed to the implementation of social welfare, including assisting the government in reducing poverty.

"Referring to BPS data, the poverty rate for Palu City is 7 percent or around 28 thousand more in 2021. And we hope that these social workers work sincerely, because work like this is part of serving the nation and state," said Romy.
