JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkum HAM) Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly said the extradition treaty between Indonesia and Singapore is in the ratification stage.

"Currently, the Indonesian government is following up the memorandum of understanding to the stage of ratification," said Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H. Laoly after receiving a visit from Singapore's Ambassador to Indonesia Anil Kumar Nayar in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Tuesday, June 7.

The treaty for the extradition of fugitives (ET) between Indonesia and Singapore was signed on January 25, 2022, witnessed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The memorandum of understanding also marks 55 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Singapore. With extradition, he said, it would make it easier for both countries to narrow the space for criminals.

The well-developed bilateral relations between the two countries are also reflected in Indonesia's policy of establishing Singapore as one of the countries where a visa on arrival (VoA) is enforced.

Yasonna hopes that the Singaporean Ambassador to Indonesia, who will replace Anil Kumar Nayar, can continue cooperation with Indonesia, including border management and immigration licensing as a form of capacity building program in the immigration sector.

Regarding the collaboration between the two countries in the field of intellectual property and law, Yasonna hopes that it will be in accordance with the duties and functions of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Meanwhile, the Singaporean Ambassador to Indonesia Anil Kumar Nayar appreciated the bilateral cooperation that had existed between the two countries, especially during his service in Indonesia.

He assessed that during the 10 years he served as ambassador, relations between Indonesia and Singapore continued to develop positively from year to year.

"Thank you for the cooperation during my tenure. I have been here long enough to feel lost," he said.
