PADANG - Padang City residents can now pay for city transportation costs using non-cash payments through the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) application.

Padang Mayor Hendri Septa said that the payment for public transportation using the non-cash system was carried out in collaboration with BRI, Organda and the Department of Transportation.

According to him, by using QRIS, fare payments will go directly to the driver's account because passengers make non-cash payments.

"So the residents of Padang City no longer have to prepare money to pay for public transportation fares. And drivers are no longer having a hard time thinking about changing money for passengers," he said in Padang, Antara, Tuesday, June 7.

In line with this, the Regional Consumer and SME Banking Head of BRI Padang Srirahayu Eka Yudaningsih conveyed that the use of BRI's QRIS in paying for angkot is one of BRI's tangible manifestations in supporting smart cities, by promoting non-cash payments as a means of transactions that can be utilized by the public.

"Each angkot will be given a different barcode and angkot passengers when making payments just scan using BRImo and their Digital Wallet, such as through Gopay, Shoppe Pay, Ovo, Link Aja and other barcode scanning features," he said.

In line with that, the Head of the Padang City Transportation Service, Yudi Indra Sani, admitted that he would pick up the ball to invite drivers and entrepreneurs for city transportation or public transportation using non-cash payments through QRIS.

He said that based on the latest data, there are 1,800 public transportation in Padang and the early stages of payment using QRIS are prioritized for the angkot routes to campus because the non-cash payment market is mostly students.

He said that there are still opportunities for other banks to join in the non-cash payments. "This non-cash payment is a form of support for the government's program to switch to non-cash payments, especially in the transportation sector," he said.
