Upgraded KTP Fraud Via Calls Rises In Central Jakarta

JAKARTA - The fraudulent act of verifying a manual ID card into a digital ID card on behalf of the Population and Civil Registration Service (Dukcapil) is rife in Central Jakarta.

The victims came from civil society to officials at the Central Jakarta City Government. This was confirmed by the Head of the Central Jakarta Dukcapil Sub-dept., Syamsu Bachri.

According to him, since the last 2 months, fraud cases on behalf of Dukcapil have become increasingly widespread.

"Their mode of claiming to be a Dukcapil officer is to verify the Manual KTP to a Digital KTP," he said when confirmed, Friday (20/6/2025).

In fact, Syamsu said, his party had received reports of residents and officials of the Central Jakarta City Government who were victims of fraud.

"These criminals will usually admit to officers, then they mention identities ranging from the names of victims, children, husbands, ID cards and families. They can find out the identities of the victims they are targeting," he said.

The perpetrators of these crimes aim to make money from the victim's bank account.

Syamsu said that in the case of the Digital Population Identity (IKD) fraud case, it had also been discussed at the Director General of Adminduk. Last week, a coordination meeting was held throughout Indonesia led by the Director General of Adminduk.

"This fraud incident not only happened in Jakarta but also in several other areas. And we have been given directions to do so that no one gets tricked," he said.

Previously, it was reported that an employee of the DKI Jakarta Communication, Information and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik) was a victim of online fraud with the mode of changing his manual ID card to a digital ID card.

As a result of the incident, the victim with the initials LT (49) suffered a loss of Rp 2.6 million. The victim reported the incident to the SPKT room of the Tanah Abang Metro Police.

From the statement of the victim with the status of PJLP (Other Individual Service Provider), he was deceived by the perpetrator who claimed to be from Dukcapil, Tanah Abang District.

"I became a victim of fraud from a person on behalf of the Dukcapil of Tanah Abang District. IDR 2.6 million disappeared," LT told reporters, Friday (20/6/2025).
