JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah hopes that Australia will absorb more trained workers from Indonesia during the leadership of the new prime minister.
As quoted in the ministry's press release received in Jakarta, Tuesday 7 June, Ida said that the new Australian government under the leadership of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese brings optimism to the Indonesian government, particularly in the employment sector.
"We are optimistic that Australia can open wider doors for Indonesian workers. We need to explore fields such as agriculture, mining, mechanics and hospitality (hospitality/restaurants) in order to absorb more skilled workers from Indonesia," she said.
"This optimism will encourage us to overcome various challenges, so that labor cooperation between us can be increasingly fruitful," said Ida.
She said that the governments of Indonesia and Australia were discussing the preparation of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation regarding the placement of workers in the agricultural sector.
"PM Albanese's visit to Mr. Joko Widodo made us want to realize the placement of workers in Australia. Hopefully in the not too distant future an agreement can be reached," she said.
Ida said that the placement of Indonesian workers in Australia would include workers with specific competencies and skills.
Workers who will be placed in Australia, she continued, will first be trained in job training centers owned by the government, private sector and community.
