Nicke Widyawati Becomes Influential Woman In The World: Born In Tasikmalaya, Leading 32,000 Pertamina Employees

JAKARTA - Fortune Magazine has released a list of the 50 most influential women corporate leaders in the world or the Most Powerful Women International in 2020.

Quoted from Antara, Thursday, October 22, from the list, the name of the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati was ranked 16th, with data: the position of President Director and CEO, Pertamina company, from Indonesia.

According to Fortune, the names that were included in the top 50 were female executives of leading global companies who were able to survive and rise during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Generally, these tough women range from mining, steel, oil and gas companies to the fastest growing, most innovative and high value startups.

Fortune said that as the leader of state-owned energy companies in Indonesia, Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati oversees the company with an annual income of more than 54.6 billion US dollars with a total employee number of around 32,000 people worldwide.

Nicke, who was born in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on December 25, 1967, was appointed Director of Pertamina in 2018 replacing his predecessor who was dismissed in the framework of company restructuring.

Shareholders entrust Nicke to carry out a business transformation as a parent company and subsidiary within the next two years.

With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting companies, in April 2020 Pertamina lowered its oil production target due to lower demand and cutting costs and capital spending.

In the list, the first position is occupied by CEO of GlaxoSmithKline, Emma Walmsley, a pharmaceutical company based in Brentford, England. Followed by Jessica Tan, a Chinese woman who served as Co-CEO and Executive Director of Ping An Group, a financial and technology-based insurance company.

In third place was Spanish women, Executive Chairman of Banco Santander, a bank company based in Madrid, Spain. Fourth, Helena Helmersson, Swedish national woman, H&M Group, a global fashion company.
